Love and Laugh A LOT!

There is a secret lurking around that will stop the development of wrinkles and surely ward off depression and even anxiety too. I am sure you want to know and you don’t even have to beg me for the top-coated secret. All you have to do is CLEAN up toxic thoughts and environments.

It’s time to love and laugh more. Forgive more and spread love more. The only way for you to do this is for you to surround yourself with happiness, loving experiences and even happier people. Below is a list of tips to get you going towards floating on a happy cloud.

1). Stop hanging out with negativity and inviting harmful relationships in…

( True enough you have friends and family that are negative, spiteful, envious and everything else).

I am not saying drop them like a hot pocket but do pray for them more, pray for their heart and then do the UNTHINKABLE…. show them love, and compassion. If they start talking about something negative then just stop them by talking about something else maybe even insert a joke. I don’t know….. just be creative

2). Speak life, love, and funny scenarios.

Speak the best of all people even if you can’t see it in them at the time, let your light shine so brightly that everybody will know that you are a child of God. After a while people will start to catch on….TRUST ME…..We live in a copy me world!!!

3).PRAY… PRAY….PRAY for God to clean and clear your mind. Renewal starts with self and then pray for God to give you the strength to move away from negative relationships and talk….

REMOVE TOXIC EVERYTHING and start living your best life!!!!

Back 2 School Oh My!!!

It is time for you and you to get as active as possible in your children’s lives. As the school year starts up, Healing Flo is encouraging all parents, aunts, and uncles to get involved in your children’s or family members school this year. You voice counts and it needs to be heard. Make sure you follow this quick top 5 list of things to help your children become well rounded and grounded..
1). Attend ALL PTA meetings: Even join the board if necessary but make sure you are active and involved. Don’t be afraid to speak up about anything and remember your opinion counts
2). Volunteer at the school and in your child’s room. Teachers might not want you up in their room 24/7 but we encourage you to make your presence known. Volunteer at least once a week.
3). Don’t expect the TEACHERS to teach your children everything they need to know. Look up the standards and when you observe the classroom ask for a copy of the daily lesson plan. Check out https://www.georgiastandards.org and look up the curriculum maps and standards for each grade level. Know what your child’s teacher should be teaching your child and make sure you are going over concepts at home!!!
4). Put your children in extracurricular activities. Extended care at the daycare doesn’t count! Look out for updates on scholarships for students for swimming, dance, and music lessons and if you know of any budget friendly programs or scholarships out there please email us @ info@healingflo.org or attach in the comment area..
5). Make sure you spend more time with your children. I can not express the need for you to put down all electronic, distractions and just spend time talking to your children…. T.V’s and other electronics can not raise your babies.
I pray that this semester will be the best ever for you and your children!!!

You must take a timeout to live and breath. As I am typing this right now I am thinking that hey, this message is for me. Time for me to back away from the computer for a day or so and really focus on just breathing and loving the great people in my life.

Dealing with Mental Illness Within the African American Community

Mental illnesses are real within the African American community but they are often shamed and not openly discussed. I was taught as a African American woman growing up among strong women not to really display hurt and pain but instead develop a get over it quick attitude which is not a healthy way to deal pain of any kind. I admit I was a  woman with a lot of emotional pain and hurt that had been deposited by previous generations. See they never talked about it but it was there.

I just knew that I was hurt and that there was no way I was just going to get over all of the pain I felt by ignoring it or not talking about it. I had to do the unthinkable…….the most boldest thing ever. I had to speak out on it, pray about it, and write about it and for the very first time I started to feel the shackles coming off.  I was the only person in my family who spoke out about depression and anxiety and of course I was automatically labelled by some as “crazy” which is not the best word to use to call somebody with mental issues. The more I started to heal the more I realized how emotionally hurt those same people were who called me crazy and how they needed a super dose of Jesus and therapy (i’m just saying).

Mental issues are not really discussed within the African American family and are often brushed off as sufferers are told to get over “it” quick. Some of us can’t understand how an African American who appears strong externally can commit suicide and  some actually think that suicide victims hold a certain look and that is straight a prehistoric thought. Think about the young lady who had the brown girl blog and blogged about self-love yet she was suffering silently and committed suicide. Some of us know how to effectively wear the mask of confidence and happineess.

I keep thinking of Nina Simone’s 4 women and how Aunt Sarah rang out that she could take pain inflicted again and again but the reality is that oppression, culture shaming, and rejection out of the cult of true womanhood has a lasting and damaging effect on the African American woman psyche.

It is time for people to heal…release anger….love more and grow…

Peace& Blessings,
